Bathroom project from a designer

Bathroom project from a designerIt may seem that finishing a bathroom is a piece of cake, and sanitary ware, hangers and cabinets are all it takes. But in practice it’s not that simple. If we do the renovation inexpertly or in a hurry, we will quickly realize that the interior is neither ergonomic, nor visually attractive.

The bathroom is that part of the house that is the most rarely renovated. Being usually small, it’s necessary not only to fit all the equipment in it, but also to make it comfortable to use. Also, its appearance is equally important. With so many available materials and diverse equipment, it’s sometimes difficult to juxtapose those that go well together. Then, there’s the design style – they differ one from another and require a different approach. So, what can we do about it? We could, for example, have our bathroom designed by an experienced designer.

What does the process of bathroom designing look like?

Sometimes, before the renovation, the investor goes to a tile store or a DIY hypermarket, and then an employee makes a computer visualization for them. This is not a technical project of the bathroom though. This is a rough visualization of what the composition will look like, but the colors or distance between and pieces of furniture and equipment may actually differ. Such a bathroom visualization can be helpful, but it’s only a general draft of what effect can be expected.

On the other hand, before preparing an expert project, the interior designer will carefully measure all the walls and floor, and look at the plumbing, so that the later suggestions help you make the most of your bathroom’s potential. Next is the floor plan, that is, a flat view from above with all the sanitary ware, furniture and accessories on it. Usually, the investor receives two separate plans, looks at them and discusses with the designer what he or she would like to change. Then tiles, paints and all equipment are chosen. An experienced bathroom designer would have catalogs, patterns and samples available for you. This is important because most materials look different in the picture then in reality. After accepting or applying changes, the technical project is created.

Bathroom project – what information to give to the designer?

Everyone has a different idea of what the ideal bathroom arrangement looks like. If we have specific expectations, we should inform the designer about it, so that he or she includes them in the project. For example, it is important to let them know if we’re considering a bathroom with a shower or a bathtub. Or, perhaps – in the case of a larger bathroom – the investor would like to have both solutions at the same time, or would like to opt for a bathtub with a bath screen.

The second thing the designer needs to know is the budget the investor has. It’s best to set a certain range regarding the minimum and maximum cost that comes into the picture. This will make it easier for the person preparing the project to find solutions that meet our expectations. Usually, in such a situation, we are given two options: one that is close to the lower limit and another one more expensive. Just as useful information will be that related to the desired design style and colors.

What should a bathroom project include?

A well-prepared bathroom project takes account of the exact dimensions and layout of this space. The project contains all the pieces of equipment placed at the right distance from each other. A list of necessary materials is also important. Bathroom zoning is another aspect essential in any well-prepared project. In the wet zone, water intake pieces of sanitary ware are placed, such as washbasin, shower unit, bathtub, washing machine, toilet bowl and bidet. The dry zone, on the other hand, is the space that has no contact with water. What else needs to be taken into account in a bathroom project you can find in the article “Bathroom design: three things to consider”.
