Bathroom à la marble – Natural rock isn’t the only option we can choose from

Bathroom renovation is always costly, and if we wish to use such materials as marble, which is expensive, the expense will be even greater. However, in addition to natural marble, there are a number of other interesting options, which look very much like it and at the same time are much cheaper. The first option is the marble-effect porcelain stoneware. One of the characteristics of stoneware is its high resistance to mechanical damage. It is hard and resistant to abrasion, making it the perfect material for the floor, which will look amazing even after years.

Another popular solution are marble-effect tiles, which will also look spectacular. Since they are available in so many shapes, they will help you highlight the unique character of your bathroom. Hexagon, fish scale, brick and arabesque tiles are just a few examples of what you can choose from. Marble tiles, like porcelain stoneware, are durable, moisture resistant and well priced. However, depending on whether we wish to decorate a part or entire wall or floor, we should choose a different type of tiles. Marble tiles for the floor shouldn’t be glossy, and preferably, they should be non slip. This will ensure that when stepping out of the shower or a bathtub we won’t be threatened with falling on a wet and slippery floor.

Bathroom inspirations – marble

There is no doubt that a bathroom with marble in its arrangement will attract with its splendor and elegance. But a question arises as to whether this material goes well with every decor? The truth is that marble is versatile, and depending on what we combine it with, it will take on a completely different dimension, making it suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

A modern glam bathroom will look especially impressive. Marble will emphasize the luxurious atmosphere of this decor. In glam design, the focus is on splendor and opulence. There is abundance of gold, silver, copper, velveteen, velvet and such colors as black and white. In its traditional version, glam design is supposed to refer to baroque interiors. Then, the bathroom features, for example, a large free-standing bathtub or mirrors with a large heavy gold frame. Marble in such a bathroom will be the icing on the cake. But modern glam look isn’t just interiors associated with manor houses. Every time more often, investors are switching to contemporary bathrooms, where although there’s still place for gold or crystal, the shape and design of individual appliances and decorations are slightly more economical and contemporary.

Marble can also be added to traditional and contemporary bathrooms. In the first case, it is worth combining it with wood – it makes every room feel warmer and more pleasant. Marble, being a rock, is a cold material, but if we add wood to a marble bathroom, it will appear atmospheric and warm. It is a trendy and original combination of materials. On the other hand, in contemporary or industrial interiors, marble will blend well with concrete. This material allows us to combine the old with the new, and splendor with minimalism. It is worth keeping this in mind when planning a bathroom renovation, as in this way we can make sure we get an amazing result.

Marble doesn’t always have the same color

As we can see, marble has a wide range of applications, but it doesn’t always have the color everyone associates it with. No matter if an investor prefers natural rock or marble-effect tiles for the bathroom, there is a wide range of colors to choose from. Classic gray marble is still common, but the choice is actually wider: shades of black, white, turquoise, green, beige or pink. Such a variety of colors encourages us to play with its form and experiment, and opt for something that will perfectly suit the atmosphere of the arrangement. A white bathroom with marble will be bright, spacious and pleasing to the eye. Black marble in the bathroom, on the other hand, is superchic and invites with its depth. As we can see, the choice is wide and no matter what color the investor decides on, he or she can be sure that the rock is unique and no two designs are the same.

What colors does marble look good with?

Because of its wide range of colors, marble can blend well with a variety of colors. One of the most universal choices is combining marble with white. Such a combination is especially recommended for smaller bathrooms. They will look classic and elegant, and at the same time, appear optically bigger. Another suggestion is marble combined with black. Such a juxtaposition will be very expressive, especially if the rock is bright while sanitary ware or accessories are black.

Let’s not forget about the aforementioned combination of marble and gold. It’s a sophisticated fusion that adds prestige. Gold will go well with both white and black marble, however, we should be careful here, as a small bathroom complemented with black marble can appear even smaller.

What surfaces can marble be on?

Depending on the final result we want to achieve, marble can either be the dominant material in the interior or complement the decor through marble bathroom accessories. In the first case, we can opt for wall and floor tiles. Marble used on a section of the wall allows us to isolate the usable area, for example, by the shower unit. Entire walls can also be made of this material. A marble floor and countertops will look splendid too, and if all the surfaces are made of marble, the bathroom will look like it was carved out of rock, which is undoubtedly impressive!

However, if the investor isn’t convinced if marble is what they’re looking for, he or she can go in the direction of accessories. If the bathroom has a window, marble window sills, for example, will work great. Many companies offer custom-made marble window sills. Bathroom sets made of this rock will also be a good option.

How to take care of marble in the bathroom?

Marble is an extremely durable and resistant rock, but we need to take proper care of it. Not all cleaning products can be used. If the product is too strong, the bathroom will soon stop looking nice. When cleaning marble, we should avoid descalers and bleach, as they can easily damage the rock surface, and pitting will appear over time. Also, avoid all products with microgranules. They, on the other hand, scratch the surface, making the marble tiles lose their shine. The last group of products to avoid are those containing acids. Like the previous ones, they cause the polish to tarnish. So what can be used then?

Every investor wishes that their contemporary bathroom containing marble impresses with its shine, that’s why it’s so important to keep the rock clean and use gentle cleaning methods. Dishwashing liquids with natural pH and a steam mop will work well. It’s also worth checking special marble care products.

Impregnation is also important. It’s best to do it as soon as the marble tiles are laid. We just need to buy an impregnating protector and cover the marble surface once a year in case of frequently used surfaces, and once every two years in places that are less exposed to stains. The purpose of such a product is to protect the rock against the penetration of moisture and the formation of difficult to remove stains.
