Five ways to renovate a bathroom on a budget

When only cosmetic changes are involved and you just want to refresh the decor a little, color is the easiest thing to change. Refreshing the decor won’t take much time and the bathroom will look different. How to renovate a bathroom on a budget? Here are some quick ways:
  1. Paint the tiles. Chipping off old tiles, cleaning the walls and the cost of buying new tiles and then installing them is considerable. If the tiles are in good condition, you don't need to get rid of them. Instead, you can buy paint in a trendy colour.
  2. Paint the walls. The tiles in the bathroom are not always right up to the ceiling. Sometimes they are only half of the height, or only on one wall. In this case, it is not necessary to paint the tiles, but the wall itself.
  3. Paint furniture. It's also a sure-fire way to make your entire bathroom look different. Cladding or stickers can be used instead of paint. Old furniture will immediately look different.
  4. Restoring ceramics. Another method is to invest in a ceramic repair kit. This way you can renew tiles or bathroom ceramics. There are plenty of products in DIY stores that will help you restore your surfaces and make them look great again.
  5. Replace decorations. Sometimes you don't have to renovate at all. You can just replace the decorations to make your bathroom look completely different.

Bathroom renovation on a budget – where to start?

When thinking about renovating your bathroom you need to start by determining how big the changes will be and what budget can be allocated for this purpose. It’s one thing if the bathroom fittings are relatively new and the tiles look good, and another if the last renovation was many years ago and cosmetic changes will not be enough.

Next, check out current trends to choose the right colours and all the elements of the bathroom’s décor. You need to figure out whether you can do the work on your own, or whether you will need to hire a professional. Consider how much time you will need to spend on the renovation.

Can renovation on a budget include fittings?

This is definitely a possibility to consider. If the bathroom has a bathtub and you want a shower, there is no need to break down the walls to make a cubicle. Instead, just invest in a good-quality glass bathtub screen. It will allow you to enjoy the benefits of a shower without incurring costs. This solution will reduce water consumption. It will also bring a breath of fresh air and make your bathroom look more modern.
A new shower cubicle is also a great idea, especially if the bathroom has a traditional large cubicle combined with a shower tray. These days more and more people are investing in modern shower cubicles. Walk-in enclosures are especially interesting. They are generally associated with a linear drain, but this is a major and costly renovation. A flat shower tray is a more economical solution. It looks modern and does not involve any major renovation works in the bathroom. All you have to do is remove the old cubicle and install a modern cubicle with a shower tray in its place. It does not have to be costly at all, but is an investment for years to come. Contemporary cubicles have an additional hydrophobic coating, which makes them even more convenient. There are no stains and the glass is always clean.

What are the costs of renovating a bathroom?

We all want an answer to this question. Unfortunately, there is no simple and clear answer. It all really depends on how much work and changes are involved. If you don’t want to spend much money on bathroom renovations, consider making changes that you can do yourself. It is estimated that about 30% of renovation costs include hiring a professional or a construction team. This is quite expensive and this is one thing you can consider avoiding. The remaining costs depend on the individual.

Depending on what you choose, it may be the cost of buying paint and painting equipment, buying accessories, or the aforementioned new shower cubicle. However, on average we can say that a bathroom renovation on a budget will cost anywhere from several hundred zlotys, if only cosmetic changes are planned, to several thousand zlotys, if it includes replacing the fittings. For comparison, a thorough renovation of a bathroom can cost as much as dozens of thousands of zlotys, so the difference is significant.
