Feng shui in the bathroom

November 2020, author: Sebastian Wiśniewski, customer advisor
Feng shui in the bathroomFeng shui is an ancient Chinese practice of space planning to achieve harmony with nature, protection from negative energy, or simply to make better use of the properties of a room and objects and thus improve well-being, happiness and health. Literally translated as "feng shui" means "wind and water", therefore the bathroom is a very important room in the house, according to this philosophy.

ELEMENTS IN FENG SHUI

In short, applying feng shui in the bathroom involves introducing four elements:

ROOM LAYOUT

The layout is worth taking care of already at the design stage, because according to feng shui, the bathroom should not be located opposite the entrance door to the apartment. However, if this is not the case, a mirror reflecting energy may be a solution. The entrance to the bathroom should be from the corridor. In an ideal bathroom, the clean zone, i.e. the bath should be separated from the dirty zone, i.e. the toilet - ideally, it will be two separate rooms. But in the end, a brick or glass wall or a large plant that will separate these two zones will suffice. Bathroom doors should not have glass and must always be closed, just like a toilet bowl.

LIGHT, COLOR AND ENERGY FLOW

Natural light is most beneficial, but if your bathroom does not have a window, it is worth investing in multiple artificial light sources. Many smaller lamps and candles will create a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. Light (and air) according to feng shui should circulate, so bright, pastel colors are welcome, which optically enlarge rooms and reflect light, and also - in the morning will add energy and in the evening will create a calming mood. And, of course, proper ventilation and aromatherapy - pleasant smells promote the circulation of good energy.

MIRROR, MANY MIRRORS

The mirror and the washbasin should be located opposite the bathroom door - this improves the energy properties of the room. You can be tempted to install many mirrors that will enlarge the space. The only thing to note - according to feng shui, mirrors should not consist of parts that "cut" off the image of the viewer at the head or legs, or that cut across the image.

NATURAL FURNITURE AND ACCESSORIES

It’s best when the furniture is made of natural materials, is not too big or overwhelming and is functional. One of the main principles of feng shui is to keep perfect cleanliness and tidiness, so all utensils should be kept in closed cabinets and drawers and unnecessary things, broken equipment or empty packaging should be removed as soon as possible. Why? According to feng shui, they remind you of unpleasant situations and unsettled matters, affecting your energy and well-being. Everything in your surroundings affects the flow of energy, so the fewer things in sight, the better the flow of energy. If accessories are also natural - woolen or linen rugs, shells and plants (in no case artificial!) - the fewer the better.

And finally something quite obvious, not only in feng shui philosophy. The bathroom must be clean and functional, and there should be order in it.
